Summer School
Summer is not yet here, but we are already planning summer school.  All children are able to attend summer school, but if your child is:

  • Currently enrolled in a Read 180/System 44 program
  • Performed at a Basic or Minimal level on the Reading or Math portion of the WKCE (Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam) test or MAPs (Measure of Academic Placement) test
  • Received an F during the school year in a core area

Then he/she has been identified as a student in need of academic intervention during summer school.

There will be two changes to summer school this year.

  1. To our regular summer school session(s), we are going to add (physical education/swimming lessons) and a (writing/research) component.  These courses along with reading and math instruction will round out the course work for those attending the regular summer school session(s).
  2. There will be special summer school classes from which to choose.

Your child has three options when signing up for summer school:

  1. Attend regular summer school session(s) only
  2. Attend special class(es) only
  3. Attend both regular summer school session(s) and special class(es).

As previously stated summer school is open to all students.  A term has been coined to describe what happens to children during summer vacation “Summer Brain Drain”.  Even though your child may not fall under the auspices of being “identified” for summer school, it is undeniable that your child could greatly benefit from attending the program.

We have tried to eliminate as many inconveniences from the summer school program as we can.  Transportation and a free breakfast/ lunch option is open to all students attending summer school.  If you have a summer vacation that will cause you to be gone for part of summer school, don’t worry.  As stated, the goal of the program is to help the students of Prairie du Chien without numerous inconveniences.  We would rather have your child receive some instruction versus no instruction during the summer.

We look forward to giving your child the opportunity to improve this summer.  We are excited about creating a dynamic learning environment that will use proven techniques to bolster your child’s academic skills. (Please turn to the back to view the Online Registration process).
