Electronic Music
Grade Level: 9-12 Prerequisite: None
Length of Course: 1 Term .5 Credit
This course is a “hands on” course that deals with electronics in music and the many applications that exist. It is offered to students in grades 9-12. Analog electronic composition is the ultimate goal of this course. Basic characteristics of electricity will be introduced as well as units on: amplification, effects, equalization, microphone techniques, audio mixing and acoustics. Multi-track recording will be utilized, with units on: decibels, tape bias, layering, over-dubbing and tape manipulation. Some digital techniques will include synthesis, multiple syntheses, effects programming, and sequencing. A study of the short history of electronic music, significant composers and compositions will also be included. This course is designed to meet the needs of students who may or may not be enrolled in other performing groups.
