FFA

There are still plants for sale in the Ag Department!!!

 What is FFA?
The FFA operates on local, state and national levels. The Wisconsin FFA Association was founded in 1929. Student members belong to chapters organized at the local school level. Agricultural education instructors serve as chapter advisors. Chapters are organized under state associations headed by an advisor and executive secretary, often employees of the state department of education. States conduct programs and host annual conventions.Founded in 1928, the former "Future Farmers of America" brought together students, teachers and agribusiness to solidify support for agricultural education. Today, the National FFA Organization is a premier youth leadership organization with 507,753 members in 7,439 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

On September 26th, five FFA members attended the 2011 Section 4 Leadership workshop in Mineral Point.  The theme for this year’s workshop was “Uncover the Treasure.”  When they arrived, they ate delicious snacks consisting of sausage, cheese, crackers and milk.  Then the true fun took place.   After a warm welcome and a creative skit performed by the Wisconsin FFA State Officer Team, all 199 advisors, members, and guests present at the workshop broke into different “pirate-themed” groups to come up with new club ideas, have fun, and meet new people from within the state.  In addition to learning new fundraising ideas and better ways to conduct meetings, the group of chapter presidents learned a dance and new power claps.  Senior Sarah Achenbach said that her favorite part of the workshop was “losing Mr. Pedretti and leaving 45 minutes later than we should have.”  After the workshop, the FFA members traveled to Dodgeville to eat a delicious meal at Pizza Hut.  Great fun was had by all.  For more information about FFA, contact Mr. Pedretti at the high school.

The FFA motto gives members twelve short words to live by as they experience the opportunities in the organization. Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve.
